IRAKLI II, THE KING OF KARTLI-KAKHETI
The history of PALAVANI wines starts from the beginning of XVIII century. In 1743 Irakli II, the king of Kartl-Kakheti, abolished Aragvi duchy and prince Bejan Eristavi was settled in Kistauri village. He has revived the devastated village and since 1780 his wine cellars have become popular in Kakheti.

THE EMPEROR OF RUSSIA ALEXANDER III
In 1888 the Emperor of Russia Alexander III visited the famous wine cellar. It is known that after this journey to Georgia Alexander III has finally rejected foreign wines and has drunk only Georgian and Crimean wines.
After the sovietization the house, wine cellar and vineyards of Eristavi family were transferred to the state ownership. Wine demand has been steadily increasing so the production was expanded and in 1954 a new big winery was launched in Kistauri.
After Gorbachev's anti-alcohol campaign the winery stopped working for some time, but in 1995 it was acquired and renewed by world famous Georgian judoist Anzor Kibrotsashvili. Nowadays the long history of the legendary winery continues in the same place in Kistauri.
